Mike, RPh - Owner

Mike has 20 plus years pharmacy experience as a licensed pharmacist in the Kansas City area. His experience includes 8 years of hospital pharmacy and 18 years of home infusion experience (four years part time and 14 years full time). His home infusion experience includes management positions with Home Parenteral Services, Care Plus, and Critical Care America. Mike started AlternaCare Infusion Pharmacy, Inc. in 1994 with the commitment to “putting the personal touch back in patient care”. This commitment is proven by the personal time that Mike and the Pharmacy staff spend with our patients in the home. To our knowledge, the Alternacare pharmacy staff are the only home infusion pharmacists in the Kansas City area that spend this quality time in the patient’s home. Mike is also a member of the Kansas Pharmacy Association as a committee member for the SRS advisory board for the state of Kansas, the American Society of Healthcare Pharmacy, and the National Home Infusion Association, where he serves on the payor relations committee. Mike is also a team leader for Parenteral and Enteral nutrition for the Region D DMERC Advisory committee and continues to provide strong nutritional consulting to area allied health professionals.

Jeff, RPh – Director of Pharmacy jschwindt@alternacare.net

Jeff, a graduate of the University of Kansas, has an eleven year history as a licensed pharmacist in Kansas, including infusion in the home setting as well as the skilled nursing facility setting. He is responsible for clinical patient monitoring and coordinating new therapies. According to Jeff, “every patient has specific needs that we, at Alternacare, focus on addressing”. He is a member of the National Home Infusion Association, Missouri Home Infusion Association, Kansas Pharmacists Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association.

Leigh, RPh – Clinical Pharmacist lluna@alternacare.net 

Leigh is a 1987 graduate of UMKC School of Pharmacy who became acquainted with home infusion pharmacy during an externship at Home Parenteral Services.  While working full-time as a hospital pharmacist, she continued to pursue a job opening in home infusion and in 1989, she began working full time in home infusion. Leigh continued to advance her career when she was chosen to open a new home infusion branch in St. Louis, Missouri.  Recently moving back to the Kansas City area, Leigh has experience in nursing home pharmacy and retail pharmacy as well.  She has been published by the Missouri Pharmacists Association, and has presented at the American Society of Health System Pharmacists midyear meeting.  She is active in the medical community providing continuing education sessions to nursing agencies and hospital groups on behalf of Alternacare Infusion Pharmacy.

Scott, RPh – Clinical Pharmacist ssmiley@alternacare.net

Scott graduated from the University of Kansas in 1993. Scott joined Alternacare in January of 2001, by opening Alternacare Infusion pharmacy in Wichita, Kansas as Director of Operations. Prior to that, Scott was Director of Operations for Omnicare, starting in 1998. Scott also spent several years in management in the retail pharmacy setting, where he developed several clinical patient monitoring programs and patient education programs.

Nursing

Jaci, RN

Jaci graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Bethel College in Minnestota.  She worked as a nurse in Rochester, Minnesota and Denver, Colorado prior to moving to the Kansas City area in 1988.  Jaci worked in the emergency department at St. Joseph Health Center for 10 years, then spent 5 years as a trauma coordinator there.  She has since worked for 9 years at Children’s Mercy Hospital in the emergency department and the urgent care center.  Jaci enjoys the teaching aspect of her profession, and has been a TNCC and PALS instructor.
